About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Advanced Laboratory Support Specialist to join our Microbiology Department at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the provision of an efficient and smooth running service within the Department by following departmental SOPs and protocols.
  • Receive and sort clinical samples, process specimens, and input patient information onto the laboratory computer system.
  • Dispose of infected material and prepare reagents as required.
  • Work collaboratively with Biomedical Scientists to ensure workload is processed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Perform telephone duties, including making and receiving calls, and conveying sensitive information to healthcare professionals, patients, and their representatives.
Requirements
  • GCSE English and Maths or equivalent at Grades 4-9.
  • GCSE or equivalent in science subjects Grade 4-9.
  • Prepared to work with biological materials and a variety of sample types.
  • Flexible approach to hours of work, including nights, evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays.
  • Able to communicate well both verbally and in written English.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience of working in a laboratory (school, international, NHS).
