We are in search of a Laboratory Operations Specialist. In this role, you will thrive in a dynamic and forward-thinking environment, playing a crucial part in our mission to meet patients' unmet medical needs while contributing to the growth of Britain's Biggest Biotech. Your expertise will be vital in supporting the scientific team to navigate drug discovery challenges and participate in multi-disciplinary project teams. To excel in this position, you should have a background in supporting laboratory and operational functions that ensure the efficient operation of a biotechnology organization.

Requirements

Essential Experience, Skills and Qualities

· Proven experience as a laboratory/operations technician or equivalent qualifications in a life sciences context or other relevant field.

· Familiarity with chemicals and solvents utilized in research and development settings.

· Strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

· Capability to identify issues and formulate solutions.

· Excellent numeracy and communication skills, both written and verbal.

· Flexibility to work collaboratively within a team and independently as necessary.

· Proficiency in using Office 365 and a willingness to learn new software.

· Positive and proactive approach to problem-solving and adapting to evolving demands.

· Innovative and ambitious mindset, with a curious and agile approach to overcoming technical challenges; motivated to engage in continuous learning and embrace challenges.

Preferred Experience and Skills

· Experience with My Amici system for ordering.

· Previous exposure to working with Fluics.

· Background in equipment maintenance and troubleshooting in scientific or biomedical settings.

· Knowledge of inventory management and stock control.

· Experience in handling LN2 and performing related tasks.

Role Responsibilities

· Oversee the receipt of consumables and chemical deliveries, ensuring accuracy and proper storage, conduct regular stock assessments, and place orders through the My Amici system as necessary.

· Manage the disposal of Clinical, General, Recyclable, and liquid waste in compliance with regulations.

· Monitor and manage chemical and solvent licenses using internal tracking systems, including conducting spot checks, and assist in drafting and reviewing COSHH Risk Assessments to ensure compliance with safety protocols.

· Support the Site Operations Manager with health and safety inspections, tasks, and procedures, and undertake Health and Safety responsibilities as required.

· Proactively assist in maintaining laboratory spaces by ensuring cleanliness, functionality, and safety.

· Serve as the first responder to equipment failures, assess repairability, and coordinate with engineers for necessary repairs. Assist in organizing annual and ad hoc servicing for equipment across all labs and maintain maintenance records.

· Take charge of LN2 and cylinder levels, including occasional decanting and changing cylinders as needed. Manage cell bank storage.

· Assist with various tasks and inquiries from scientists and the Site Operations Manager, such as stocktaking, restocking consumables, and glasswasher duties, and provide out-of-hours support and holiday cover if required.

· Foster relationships internally and externally to facilitate seamless operations.

· Share information openly and collaborate with other departments to advance various projects and achieve organizational goals.
