Logistics UK is a leading business group in the UK, representing the entire logistics industry, including road, rail, sea, and air sectors, as well as buyers of freight services. Our members are crucial to the efficient movement of goods, impacting over 7 million people employed in making, selling, and moving goods across the UK.
With Brexit, technology, and other disruptive forces changing the way goods move across borders and through the supply chain, logistics has never been more important to the UK's economy. Our mission is to support our members in navigating these changes and ensuring the continued success of the logistics industry.
Job Summary- Develop and implement Logistics UK's road freight policy strategy, working closely with colleagues across the Directorate and the business.
- Design and deliver campaigns to drive forward Logistics UK's goals for road freight policy, gathering input from members and stakeholders.
- Manage and develop our regional programme of English Freight Councils, increasing attendance and engagement, and providing valuable insights to members.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging policy topics and educate colleagues on key issues, supporting collaboration and effective policy development.
- Develop policy proposals and positions, with member input, to influence government and stakeholder thinking.
- Build and maintain relationships with decision-makers and stakeholders, carrying out effective engagement and supporting individual Freight Council Secretaries.
- Produce high-quality reports, consultation responses, briefing documents, and presentations for various audiences.
- Deliver effective presentations for members and stakeholders, including at Logistics UK events and external conferences.
- Ensure members are informed of policy proposals and regulatory changes affecting their businesses through high-quality briefings and materials.
- Inform and agree media plans and lines on policy topics, and act as media spokesperson as required.
- Support public affairs plans and content on policy topics, and engage with political stakeholders as needed.
- Line manage senior policy managers, policy managers, and senior policy advisors, delegating policy responsibilities and overseeing their work.
- Collaborate closely with Directorate colleagues, providing expert support on policy issues and lines to take for engagement with decision-makers and members.
- Develop policy positions and shape campaigns on road freight policy, with the ability to take on additional topics as required.
- Ensure accuracy in policy information and positions on assigned topics, representing member views accurately.
- Provide expert policy support across Logistics UK on assigned topics, helping deliver wider business goals.
- Act as Secretary to assigned councils and working groups, arranging engagement, speakers, and meetings.
- Coach and develop direct reports, collaborating with the wider team and supporting junior colleagues.
- Deliver to budget and demonstrate Logistics UK's core values: Excellence, Dynamism, Togetherness, and Reputation.
Requirements
- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- Persuasive and articulate communication skills, both written, verbal, and using presentations.
- Ability and confidence to represent Logistics UK externally at high levels of government and with media.
- Team player able to contribute to Logistics UK's wider policy, communications, and commercial objectives.
- Understanding of public policy development and how to influence it.
- Interest in logistics issues or willingness to learn.
- Prepared to travel regularly to fulfill role responsibilities.
- Experience working on environmental and sustainability issues, particularly in transport.
- Policy experience in a relevant business area, agency, trade association, government department, or public body an advantage.
