Job Title: Principal Pharmacist - Complex and Frailty

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Pharmacist to lead our clinical pharmacy services for complex and frailty wards. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering and developing pharmacy and medicines management services that meet the needs of our patients and the Trust.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience as a clinical pharmacist in a hospital setting, with a strong track record of leading and managing clinical pharmacy services. You will be responsible for overseeing the clinical pharmacy services to complex and frailty wards, including developing and implementing policies and guidelines, implementing service improvement, and forging strong working relations with consultants, clinical directors, general managers, and heads of nursing.

You will lead on a number of key projects that help integrate pharmacy services across both sites and will have strong reasoning and judgement skills, excellent interpersonal skills, whilst possessing a passion for medication safety and service improvement.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Act as the principal point of contact between Pharmacy and Clinical Service Line 7, which includes Complex and Frailty.
  2. Lead and manage all aspects of clinical pharmacy services to the above CSL ensuring agreed standards are met and business needs are fulfilled.
  3. Provide strong leadership to clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians across both sites of BHFT in order to develop the quality and robustness of clinical pharmacy services across the Trust and with our key external stakeholders.
  4. Oversee and support the management, leadership, governance, and strategic development of clinical pharmacy services to the CSL in order to meet national standards in Medicines Optimisation, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
  5. Work closely with the Medicines Use & Quality Manager, Medication Safety Officers, and Digital Pharmacy team to enhance patient care across the CSL.
  6. Be responsible for the delivery of defined service Key Performance Indicators.
  7. Deliver highly specialist pharmaceutical care including, where applicable, non-medical prescribing to a defined caseload of patients, in line with the agreed scope of practice, undertaking risk management and ensuring compliance with local and national clinical guidance.
