About the Role

The Lead Pharmacist for Medication Safety and Governance will play a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of patient safety within Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This position requires a highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist with a passion for clinical governance and risk management.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the Medication Safety Officer in improving medication error incident reporting and learning within the Trust.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and audit actions to ensure compliance with Care Quality Commission criteria.
  • Work closely with the Medication Safety Officer to improve medication safety within the Trust and ensure good clinical governance and risk management within medicines management activities.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and audit the impact of medicines safety initiatives across the Trust.
  • Be a key member of the Pharmacy Clinical Governance Meetings, ensuring any agreed plans or areas of concern are fully integrated into the overall Quality Management System within Pharmacy.
  • Support the running of the Trust Medicines Safety Committee, produce Trust-wide medicines safety communication, and assist with the Trust PSIRF agenda work streams.

Requirements

  • Pharmacy degree (Masters level) or equivalent.
  • GPhC Pharmacist Registration.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent (or close to completion).
  • Validated expertise in hospital pharmacy.
  • Evidence of relevant continued professional development.
  • Audit/Research/Project experience.
  • Experience of supervising and training staff.
  • Policy and service development.
