Job Title: Medical Examiner

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Examiner to join our team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. As a Medical Examiner, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of death certification and investigation processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough and independent reviews of deaths to ensure compliance with legal and procedural requirements.
  • Scrutinise certified causes of death offered by attending doctors and provide feedback to improve accuracy and consistency.
  • Discuss and explain the cause of death with next of kin/informants in a transparent, empathetic, and professional manner.
  • Maintain comprehensive and timely records of all deaths scrutinised, enabling analysis and reporting to healthcare providers and the National Medical Examiner's office.
  • Support the training of junior doctors in death certification and promote good practice in accurate completion of Medical Certificates of Cause of Death (MCCDs).
  • Collaborate with Medical Examiner Officers and other Medical Examiners to share experiences, expertise, and best practices.
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development to maintain expertise and stay up-to-date with national guidance and best practices.
Requirements:
  • Consultant-grade doctor from a range of disciplines, including GP principals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex medical information and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to strict data protection protocols.
