Research Grant Officer

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Research Grant Officer to join our Research Application Support (RAS) Team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting our researchers throughout the grant application process.
Main Responsibilities:- Identify and disseminate funding opportunities from various sources, including NIHR, UKRI, and charities.
- Provide advice on proposal development, budgeting, and project planning to maximize the chances of funding success.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong attention to detail, analytical skills, excellent communication skills, and a genuine enthusiasm for supporting research initiatives. A background in research, preferably with a solid understanding and experience in clinical research delivery, is essential. The successful individual will undertake a comprehensive 12-month training programme, complete a competency framework, and, upon successful completion, progress to a Band 6 Research Grant Officer role.

University Hospitals Birmingham is a Smoke-Free premises hospital.
Requirements:- Evidence of continued professional development.
- Specialist knowledge acquired through post-graduate study e.g. Clinical Research, Health Data Science, Health Policy.
- Experience of scientific/health related subject matter.
- Significant experience working within Research, Development & Innovation environment.
- Understanding of NHS/University research environments.
- Understanding of clinical research delivery.
- Experience of budget control and contract negotiation.
- Evidence of project work within the NHS.
- Ability to interpret national policies and guidance as appropriate.
- Knowledge of research funders and their application processes, e.g.
- Finance understanding of SFIs.
- Evidence of innovation in project research teams.
- Understanding Health Data Research within the NHS.
- Ability to make decisions on meeting project targets highlighting performance information including complex facts and/or situations which requires analysis and interpretation.
- Ability to analyse and report data in a format which is consistent with the needs of the audience.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Good report writing skills.
- Excellent IT skills, especially Excel.
- Flexible approach to work.
- Able to travel across UHB sites and to external sites if required.
- Negotiation, coaching, facilitation and leadership skills.
