Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will engage closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver patient-centered pharmacy services for both outpatient and inpatient care. Additionally, you will be an integral part of the Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit, overseeing the aseptic preparation and release of high-risk injectable or infusional products while ensuring a high-quality, safe, and efficient service through the management of the Pharmaceutical Quality System (PQS) and cost-saving initiatives.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Competently reviewing all prescriptions for parenteral and oral medications against approved chemotherapy protocols, including the assessment and interpretation of blood results.
  • Ensuring the safe dispensing and issuance of intrathecal injections in accordance with Trust and National Guidance.
  • Collaborating with the Oncology and Haematology teams regarding chemotherapy protocols and providing necessary clinical support.
  • Working alongside the Accountable Pharmacist to maintain and enhance facilities, equipment, and practices to uphold the highest technical standards.
  • Acting as an Authorised Pharmacist, supervising the daily preparation of products and their release for clinical use in compliance with local, regional, and national regulations.
  • Coordinating treatment provision with the Aseptic technical team and Cancer Pharmacy Team for the Day Therapy Unit, haematology inpatient unit, and other medical wards requiring high-risk injectable medications.
  • Ensuring the Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit operates in line with current legislation and guidelines, including Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and Quality Assurance of Aseptic Preparation Services.
  • Performing final release of products sourced as unlicensed ready-to-administer doses from Specials Manufacturers, maintaining competence in this area.
  • Being fully knowledgeable about the processes for accurately preparing, dispensing, and releasing a variety of aseptic products, including cytotoxics, epidurals, intrathecals, antibiotics, parenteral nutrition, high-risk injectables, and novel agents.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Master’s Degree in Pharmacy
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in accordance with GPhC recommendations

Desirable:

  • Post-graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of additional training in aseptic services, such as TSET Aseptic Services for Managers, quality risk management, or change management training
