Sleep Technician Assistant

About the Role
The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the position of Assistant Sleep Technician. As a key member of the sleep team, you will be responsible for providing essential administrative and technical support to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care in sleep medicine.
Key Responsibilities
- Download and check Home Sleep Studies (HSS) for accuracy in a timely manner, ensuring that the equipment is returned and cleaned as per hospital and manufacturer's guidelines.
- Initiate Actigraphy studies as per Consultant Technologist/Sleep Consultant request, utilizing effective communication skills to assist patients and instruct them in the documentation required while wearing the device.
- Clean and maintain Actigraphy devices, download patient data, and format reports for Consultant review.
- Document HSS patient details and equipment as per department guidelines, ensuring preservation of patient studies and addressing any equipment issues.
- Complete Patient Observations, Wire-Up, and perform patient Bio-Calibrations prior to patients PSG/MSLT.
- Responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and sterilizing EEG electrodes and PSG/MSLT equipment for overnight and daytime tests.
- Takes responsibility for undertaking mandatory training and updates as required.
- Takes responsibility in collaboration with line manager within the Appraisal/Personal Development Planning (PDP) process for identifying own learning and development needs within the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF).
Requirements
- 5 GCSEs grades A-C including Maths, English, and Science (or equivalent).
- Good verbal and written skills.
- Demonstrate commitment to further learning and personal development.
- At least 12 months of experience within a healthcare environment.
- Flexible approach to meet the needs of the service.
- Ability to work early or late shifts and travel across site if required.
- Prioritize and manage own tasks and workload.
- Recognize role boundaries and work within remit.
- Recognize and challenge poor procedure.
- Demonstrate behavior consistent with the Trust Values and Behaviors.
- Demonstrate a commitment to and understanding of the importance of treating all individuals with dignity and respect appropriate to their individual needs.
