Job Title: Senior Deputy Head

The Senior Deputy Head plays a crucial role in supporting the Head in developing a shared vision and strategic plan for the College. This involves working closely with the College Senior Leadership Team to drive academic excellence and student success.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Head in developing and implementing the College's strategic plan.
  • Lead and manage the College's middle leadership team, providing guidance and support to ensure effective teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to promote academic excellence and student well-being.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify and address areas for improvement, ensuring the College remains a sector leader in pastoral care.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Ideal Candidate:

The successful candidate will possess a strong track record of leadership and management, with a proven ability to drive academic excellence and student success. They will be an experienced and successful classroom teacher, with a deep understanding of the College's values and ethos.

Key qualifications and characteristics include:

  • Hold a degree and a PGCE or equivalent.
  • GTCS registration is essential.
  • Proven track record of outstanding middle or senior leadership within a school context.
  • Experience of a boarding environment.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff and students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and alumni.
  • Ability to identify and address areas for improvement, with a commitment to continuous learning and development.
Package Description:

The appointment will begin at the start of the Autumn Term 2025. Salary will be by negotiation and will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The role includes remission for children attending Fettes as day students, and a four-bedroom modern house close to campus is available. Employment will be subject to two terms' notice on either side, with other details and conditions of service to be discussed at interview.
