About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Gardener to lead our team at Belton Estate. As a key member of the Property Leadership Team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and long-term planning of the garden.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a vision for the gardens, working closely with the property leadership team to integrate the gardens into the overall estate experience.
  • Manage a team of four full-time staff and a growing community of volunteers, providing guidance and support to ensure the highest standards of gardening and horticulture.
  • Work closely with the visitor experience team to champion the cause of the garden and engage visitors with the beauty, nature, and narratives of the garden.
  • Ensure that everyone feels welcome through modelling inclusive leadership and working with other members of the team to make changes that improve access to the garden.
  • Manage operational risk and compliance requirements relevant to horticulture, ensuring that the garden is safe and compliant with all relevant regulations.

Requirements

  • Proven experience of managing a diverse garden throughout the seasons.
  • Excellent knowledge of plants and plant care, with a higher level of horticultural experience supported by appropriate qualifications to RHS level 3 or above.
  • Enthusiasm for horticulture, dedication to high-quality presentation, and a creative flair for gardening.
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team, setting high standards for yourself and those around you.
  • Experience with managing operational risk and compliance requirements relevant to horticulture.
  • Commitment to working as part of a wider team to build a culture of inclusion.
