Job Summary

The NHS England is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health Equity Specialist to join their team. As a key member of the regional Public Health directorate and Health Equity team, you will play a crucial role in improving regional healthy life expectancy and reducing health inequalities.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will provide advice, guidance, and support to the Prevention Programme Manager and health equity team to ensure that projects and programmes of work for improving population health, supporting prevention, and reducing health inequalities are delivered effectively. This will include the provision of a public health-informed approach to project and programme delivery, resulting in the implementation of an overall regional Health Equity approach.

The Health Equity Specialist will be responsible for the delivery of key activities and tasks as agreed with the Prevention Programme Manager and system colleagues. They will work collaboratively with colleagues across the directorate and regionally to support the delivery of system and regional objectives, leading a multidisciplinary matrix team that will support the delivery of health equity projects and workstreams.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in health research, epidemiology, statistics, public health, or an allied subject. They will also have further training or significant experience in project management, financial management, or supporting change management processes. In addition, they will have at least 3 months of experience working within a public health team and/or supporting public health.

The successful candidate will also have experience analysing and interpreting routinely collected health and social care data, relevant qualitative research and/or evaluation experience, and experience of evaluating and measuring the performance of healthcare or health services or related projects aimed at exploring issues related to health inequalities, health, or environments using quasi-experimental methods.

They will also have experience of undertaking rapid evidence reviews, setting up and implementing internal processes and procedures, and delivering Public Health initiatives to tackle inequalities and improve population health.

Skills and Values

The successful candidate will be a clear communicator with excellent written and presentation skills, capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately to a diverse and varied range of audiences. They will also have the ability to analyse very complex issues where material is conflicting and drawn from multiple sources.

They will have excellent IT skills, including the use of Microsoft Office, and excellent interpersonal skills for nurturing key relationships and maintaining networks. They will also have a commitment to quality, promoting high standards in all they do, and consistently think about how their work can help and support clinicians and frontline staff deliver better outcomes for patients.
