Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Composite Development Engineer to join our team at Dowty, a GE Aerospace company. As a key member of our Integrated Project Team, you will support the development of composite process technology for a novel composite rotor structure.

Your primary focus will be on hands-on process development and definition, working closely with the Materials and Process group, Design, and Manufacturing teams. You will be responsible for developing and delivering composite rotor hardware for testing, with a strong emphasis on process improvement and innovation.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Support the development of composite process technology for a novel composite rotor structure
  2. Contribute to process specifications and documentation, equipment procurement and commissioning, and tooling system design
  3. Support the low-rate production of test hardware, including hands-on support on the line and characterization of parts produced by various techniques
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design intent is met and the process is capable
Requirements
  1. Relevant Engineering degree - Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent
  2. Composite Process Development/Manufacturing experience - particularly with RTM and dry fibre preforming
  3. Demonstrated experience of process improvement
  4. Material development experience (carbon fabric, resin, adhesive, binder, bond primers)
  5. Low TRL/MRL technology development experience
  6. Experience with Aerospace quality systems (in development and/or production) - particularly on rotatives (engines, rotors)
  7. Six Sigma, Lean or other process control/improvement techniques
  8. Composite part characterisation (mechanical test, microscopy, volume fraction measurement)
  9. Composite metrology and NDT
  10. Composite Design/Design for Manufacture experience
  11. Tool design - particularly in Catia V5
  12. Tool procurement
  13. Tool rapid prototyping (3D printing, simple machining, composite tooling layup)

Security Clearance

Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance is required and must be maintained for this role. Please note that in the event that BPSS clearance cannot be obtained, you may not be eligible for the role and/or any offer of employment may be withdrawn on grounds of national security.
