About the Job

This Principal Engineer - Product Safety opportunity will allow you to ensure design safety across multiple submarine programmes and manufacturing facilities. Your responsibilities will include supporting programmes at various stages of the lifecycle, from concept design through submarine build and commissioning activities. You will work as part of a team and liaise with engineering departments to develop design safety cases using various techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Hazard Analysis (HAZAN) throughout the safety lifecycle.
  • Contribute to submarine design in concept stages and modifications of mature and operational submarines to ensure safety from internal hazards.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for internal hazard safety at design review meetings and as a design peer reviewer.
  • Develop safety case reports for multiple safety cases.
  • Undertake risk assessments, DSEAR, and ALARP evaluations.
  • Produce and review technical papers on safety analysis.
  • Liaise with engineering stakeholders on safety matters.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor internal hazard safety processes and risk management strategies.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Safety Engineering knowledge gained from areas such as systems safety, process safety, technical safety, product safety, nuclear safety, or safety case development.
  • Experience in naval maritime safety case development or maintenance.
  • Background in fire engineering and/or explosive atmosphere safety.
  • Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative risk assessment techniques.
  • Degree qualified in a relevant STEM discipline.
