We are seeking a highly experienced public health professional to join our team as Deputy Director of Public Health. This is a senior-level position that requires a strong commitment to public health principles and team working.
About the Role:
The Deputy Director of Public Health will take the regional lead on enabling and moving at pace key national priorities to tackle health inequalities and improve outcomes. They will also have a key regional role on workforce development.
Main Responsibilities:
- Day-to-day operational responsibility for the provision of safe and effective health improvement and workforce development advice and support.
- Managing the health improvement and workforce development staff who deliver the functions devolved to Region from the Secretary of State and the functions that the Region undertakes from national guidance and in agreement with local partners.
- Supporting the Regional Director in the strategic oversight of the contribution to improving and protecting the public's health and reducing health inequalities in the South West region.

The Office of Health and Disparities (OHID) in the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) drives the Government's health improvement agenda. Under the professional leadership of the Chief Medical Officer, OHID leads the development and delivery of the Government's work to improve and level up health outcomes with a clear focus on public health, prevention and health disparities.
Requirements:
- Inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview).
- Inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview).
- All candidates must meet the Faculty of Public Health Competencies expected of all public health consultants/specialists.
