Job Description

Stark Building Materials UK is a leading building materials distributor in Northern Europe, and we are seeking a skilled Payroll Specialist to join our team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage payroll for approximately 1700 monthly paid employees across the Stark UK Companies.
  • Process payroll accurately and on time, adhering to contractual terms and payment frequencies.
  • Provide payroll support and advice to Stark colleagues.
  • Apply and validate company and statutory payments, including sickness, maternity, and paternity benefits.
  • Apply and validate court orders in accordance with England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland legislation.
  • Process incoming P6, P45, and New Starter Checklist (NSC) documents.
  • Attend weekly team meetings and huddles to maintain high standards of service delivery.
  • Ensure adherence to business controls, internal, and external audit procedures.
  • Validate exception and error reports for reasonableness.
  • Develop and maintain good customer relationships by owning an allocated section of the payroll.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in legislation and best practices to provide a professional service.
  • Contribute to the production of timely and accurate year-end data for HMRC.
  • Support the acquisition process for newly acquired businesses.
  • File processed paperwork as required.
  • Perform other administrative duties related to payroll processing.

Requirements:

  • Previous high-volume end-to-end payroll experience is preferred.
  • Ability to complete manual calculations is desirable.
  • Experience with Workday would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of manual and computerized payrolls, including all pay methods and frequencies.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Prior knowledge of payroll and HR systems, both integrated and interface-driven.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Office products.
  • Year-end and P11D reporting.
  • Working knowledge of UK income tax and National Insurance calculations.
  • Knowledge of Statutory Payments (SSP/SMP/SPP/SAP).
  • Basic pensions knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Court Orders and Student/Postgraduate Loans.
  • Experience with company acquisitions and TUPE transfers is an advantage.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate high levels of confidentiality, honesty, and integrity.
