London, Greater London, United Kingdom Raft Full time

Raft is an innovative logistics platform that's transforming the freight and customs industry through automation and advanced technologies. As a fast-scaling, UK-based tech company with global reach, we're pioneering solutions that empower freight forwarders and customs brokers to operate at new levels of efficiency and precision.

We're seeking an experienced Staff Backend Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping the architecture and capabilities of our platform. This is not a traditional engineering role—it's a high-impact opportunity where you'll design robust cloud infrastructure, develop scalable APIs, and enhance our data pipeline ecosystem.

The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of hands-on experience in backend development with a strong focus on Python. They should also have deep expertise in designing and maintaining scalable databases (preferably PostgreSQL) and understanding the latest trends in database technology.

A successful candidate will be proficient with FastAPI/Starlette and able to demonstrate experience in building scalable APIs with Python. They should also have a solid track record in multi-cloud environments and understand how to architect and implement software libraries that thrive in distributed, multi-cloud settings.

We estimate the salary for this position to be around £110,000 - £130,000 per year, depending on experience, plus additional benefits such as stock options and flexible working hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain sophisticated databases, APIs, and data pipelines with responsibility for the underlying infrastructure.
  • Collaborate across functions to ensure our platform is secure, reliable, and optimized for performance.
  • Develop and maintain highly resilient systems enabling features such as multi-user access and real-time updates.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in backend development with a strong focus on Python.
  • Deep expertise in designing and maintaining scalable databases (preferably PostgreSQL).
  • Proficient with FastAPI/Starlette and experience in building scalable APIs with Python.
  • Solid track record in multi-cloud environments and ability to architect and implement software libraries that thrive in distributed, multi-cloud settings.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary (£110,000 - £130,000 per year) plus additional benefits.
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge logistics technology with a talented team.
  • Flexible working hours and remote work options.
