Policy Advisor: Public Sector Pay and Pensions

HM Treasury's Workforce, Pay and Pensions team collaborates closely with teams across Whitehall and HM Treasury to establish, implement, and maintain the government's overarching policy positions on public sector pay and pensions. Their work is crucial in delivering high-quality public services and ensuring best value for taxpayers.


The team emphasizes development opportunities alongside recognition and utilization of individual strengths. A healthy work-life balance is maintained through flexible working patterns, including home working, part-time working, condensed hours, and flexible leave.


Key Responsibilities

  • Leading advice on and delivery of the public sector pay round, delivering pay awards for the main frontline workforces, including the NHS, police officers, teachers, and armed forces.
  • Managing industrial relations risk and monitoring key flashpoints across the breadth of the entire public sector.
  • Leading on other high-profile policy areas related to pay.

The ideal candidate will be able to work calmly under pressure and have experience in managing competing priorities while delivering high-quality work. Additionally, an understanding of data, ability to identify trends, and form conclusions is essential, as is an understanding of the strategic drivers for the area, remaining alert to emerging issues and trends.
