Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Operating Department Practitioner to join our hospital team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Orthopaedics, critical care, and medical terminology to provide high-quality patient care in the theatre environment within their designated specialty.

Responsibilities
  • Manage own workload in a designated highly specialist area without supervision as appropriate, using all forms of knowledge, skills, and experience required to undertake duties competently.
  • Demonstrate a complex level of communication and relationship skills, promoting and maintaining effective liaison throughout the Unit team and with the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Ensure the Health and Safety of all staff, patients, and visitors, reporting all incidents/accidents/near misses to the team leader.
  • Document and monitor the safe use of equipment and economic use of supplies.
  • Provide accurate and timely collection and submission of appropriate Theatre activity data, using appropriate manual and computerised systems.
  • Ensure safe quality care is provided for patients within the Unit as Trust and Unit policy.
  • Maintain an understanding of and adhere to all Trust and Unit policies and procedures, ensuring attendance of mandatory annual training, e.g. Fire, Manual Handling, CPR, etc.
  • Have an understanding of Risk Management and participate in the identification/analysis of risk.
Requirements
  • Diploma in Operating Department Practice (or equivalent) or RGN with relevant Anaesthetic Qualification; if applicable.
  • The ability to work between anaesthetics and recovery.
  • Experience in the theatre environment.
  • Commitment to maintain own skills and standard of care.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable
  • Specialist orthopaedic knowledge.
Contract Details

Full-time, Fixed term contract. Contract length: 6 months.
