Job Title: English Teacher - SEN Specialist

Job Type: Part-Time

Location: Ferndown, Dorset

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced English Teacher to join our team as a Part-Time SEN Specialist in a Secondary School setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning to students with social and emotional difficulties, anxiety disorders, and mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and Learning: Develop and deliver the curriculum, considering the educational, physical, and social needs of the students.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other staff members as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Lesson Planning: Use short-, medium-, and long-term plans to deliver the curriculum effectively.
  • Target Setting: Set, monitor, and review personalized targets to optimize individual learning.
  • Review and Planning: Participate in the review of Statements and EHC plans, PEP, and LAC reviews.
  • Lesson Structure: Structure lessons to maintain pace, motivation, and challenge.
  • Curriculum Development: Assist in developing the curriculum offer and stay informed about current issues in autism education.
  • Budget Management: Manage a delegated budget as required.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications: PGCE, QTS, QTLS teaching qualification and evidence of in-service training.
  • Teaching Experience: Ability to teach Entry level 2 & 3, Functional Skills Level 1 & 2, and GCSEs in English and another subject to GCSE Level.
  • Desirable Qualities: Experience in a school environment, ideally in specialist education.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Communication Skills: Strong teaching and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Organizational Skills: Effective skills in planning, preparation, recording, and reviewing students' progress.
  • IT Skills: Good IT skills and understanding of how IT can support learning.
  • Emotional Intelligence: Ability to remain calm and reflective in a challenging environment.
  • Independence: Proven ability to work independently, be well-organized, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Relationship Building: Ability to engage students in positive and enabling relationships.
