About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineering Lead to join our team at BirdLife International. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for leading the development and maintenance of our data infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration with our business systems and scientific data platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Propose and implement resourcing options for development and ongoing support to business and conservation systems, ensuring timely and budget-friendly delivery of projects.
  • Design, implement, and manage databases and data models using Azure SQL Database, MySQL Database, PostgreSQL, PostGIS, and other Azure database services.
  • Develop and coordinate project work on the Unit 4 ERP solution, ensuring alignment with business objectives and data governance processes.
  • Line manage the Data Engineering team, providing guidance and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality data solutions.
  • Research and develop best practices for data management, advising stakeholders on data availability, continuity, and security.
Requirements
  • Comprehensive experience with IaaS services, including Azure and AWS.
  • Expertise in database development and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Azure Synapse and Azure Data Factory.
  • Strong understanding of continuous integration and deployment principles.
  • Extensive experience with databases, including MySQL, TSQL, PostGIS, and PostgreSQL.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages, including PowerShell, bash, R, and Python.
