Job Summary

Sefton Council is a dynamic and forward-thinking local authority seeking a dedicated and experienced Occupational Health Advisor to join its team. As a key member of the Health Unit, you will play a vital role in delivering a comprehensive occupational health service that promotes the health, wellbeing, and safety of the Council's workforce.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out pre-employment health assessments, including basic functional assessments.
  • Conducting health assessments and welfare checks in relation to employee fitness for work, including sight, hearing, and hand-arm vibration testing.
  • Producing and distributing Health Unit reports.
  • Providing advice on reasonable workplace risk assessments and adjustments in relation to the health of individual employees.
  • Carrying out health assessments and surveillance for groups or individuals in relation to statutory requirements, Council policy, and good practice.
  • Providing initial counselling consultations.
  • Delivering presentations and briefing sessions on associated health matters.
  • Developing corporate and specific policies, practices, and procedures as an integral part of the Health Unit.
  • Carrying out risk assessments as an integral part of the Health Unit.
  • Undertaking health promotion activities in line with national strategies and initiatives.
  • Developing a strong relationship with the Primary Care Trust and other partners with which the Council interacts.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Nursing qualification and registration with the UKCC.
  • Experience in occupational health provision/services.
  • Ability to work well within a team.
  • Ability to write health reports.
  • Ability to verbally communicate with all grades of staff.
  • Computer literacy.
Working Arrangements

This is a customer-facing role, and the successful candidate will be required to have the ability to fulfill all spoken aspects of the role with confidence through the medium of English.
