Job Title: Academic Finance Business Partner

We are seeking a highly skilled Academic Finance Business Partner to join our team at Hays PLC. As a key member of our finance team, you will play a critical role in supporting the financial planning and monitoring of research activity, providing advice and guidance to relevant school budget holders.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Contribute to the production of detailed budgets for the school's research activities, ensuring accurate forecasting and analysis of variances.
  2. Prepare robust research income forecasts, updating out-turn forecasts and discussing variances with budget holders.
  3. Act as an advisor on financial matters, attending meetings to discuss and influence performance, advising on applying financial regulations, and training budget holders.
  4. Support faculty by costing research grant bids, advising on maximizing accuracy and benefit to the school while ensuring adherence to funder rules.
  5. Maintain and improve systems for recording and monitoring the financial activities of all research activities, ensuring accurate forecasting and effective communication with research leads.
  6. Provide professional supervision of the financial administration role of Research Activity support staff, ensuring correct procedures and processes are followed.
  7. Engage with University and school working groups, analyzing information and data, and providing briefings and recommendations.
  8. Maximize the use of SAP to improve the efficiency and flow of information, checking and authorizing purchase orders, fee payment requests, and sales invoices.
Requirements:
  1. ACA, ACCA, or CIMA Qualified Accountant.
  2. Extensive financial management experience, with a focus on budgeting and monitoring complex activities.
  3. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to pick up variances and advise on best practice.
  4. Strong management accounting/project accounting experience, with a focus on financial planning and analysis.
What We Offer:
  1. A competitive remuneration package, including a salary of £40,000 - £45,000 per annum.
  2. Up to 20% pension contribution.
  3. 30 days annual leave + bank holiday.
