About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Childcare Support Worker to join our team at Polaris Community. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing a safe and nurturing environment for young people aged 13-18 years.
Key Responsibilities:
- To ensure a caring and motivating environment is provided for the young people, taking into account individual developmental needs and enabling them to reach their full potential.
- To plan and prepare activities that meet the young people's needs and stimulate their learning and integration within the home.
- To keep well-informed of legislation, guidelines, and policies to ensure the Children's Act, Children's Homes Regulations, and the National Minimum Standards are met at all times.
- To observe and assess young people's progress and keep accurate records of their achievements, behavior, and important events in their lives.
- To work with local authorities and placing authorities to ensure the care the young people receive is outstanding.
- To establish and maintain positive working relationships with parents/carers in a way that supports young people's learning and development and values parental involvement where appropriate.
- To be flexible within working practices of the home, including undertaking domestic tasks, such as preparation of meals, cleaning, and shopping.
- To work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the home is fulfilled.
- To keep clear and legible records regarding the young people, ensuring that entries are legible, clearly expressed, non-stigmatising, and distinguished as far as possible between fact, opinion, and third-party information.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- Previous experience of working with teenage boys or challenging behavior and a willingness to further develop skills.
- A driving license and access to a vehicle, as public transport is not a viable option due to the rural location.
- A Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma, Children and Young People's Workforce, or NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, or equivalent.
- The ability to engage young people in a wide range of activities and support them through their time at Polaris Community, guiding them towards independence and adulthood.
- Flexibility with working hours and the ability to work a mixture of days, evenings, and weekends, including shift work.
- The ability to challenge unacceptable behavior, provide firm boundaries, and provide care that meets the needs of the individual.
- The ability to work as part of a team and follow delegated tasks and handovers.
- The ability to maintain policies and procedures and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- The ability to engage and listen to young people and their needs.
