Job Title: Residential Childcare Support Worker - Young People's Advocate

Location: Aldershot, Hampshire

Contract: Part-Time, Permanent

Salary: Base salary of £13,163.88 pro rata (£26,327.76 FTE) per annum with the potential to earn up to £14,843.88 with sleep in shifts

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Childcare Support Worker to join our team at Apple Orchard. As a key member of our staff, you will provide a nurturing environment for young males aged 13-18 years, promoting their emotional and psychological well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a caring and motivating environment is provided for the young people, taking into account individual developmental needs and enabling them to reach their full potential.
  • Plan and prepare activities that meet the young people's needs and stimulate their learning and integration within the home.
  • Keep well-informed of legislation, guidelines, and policies to ensure the Children's Act, Children's homes regulations, and the national minimum standards are met at all times.
  • Observe and assess young people's progress, keeping accurate records of their achievements, behaviour, and important events in their lives.
  • Work with local authorities/placing authorities to ensure the care the young people receive is outstanding.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with parents/carers in a way that supports young people's learning and development and values parental involvement where appropriate.
  • Be flexible within working practices of the home, undertaking domestic tasks as needed, including preparation of meals, cleaning, shopping, etc.
  • Work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the home is fulfilled.
  • Keep clear and legible records regarding the young people, ensuring that entries in records are legible, clearly expressed, non-stigmatising, and distinguished as far as possible between fact, opinion, and third-party information.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience working with teenage boys or challenging behaviour, with a willingness to further develop skills.
  • A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle, as public transport is not a viable option due to the rural location of our services.
  • A Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent, or a willingness to work towards a required qualification.
  • Flexibility with working hours, including a mixture of days, evenings, and weekends, with every other weekend off.
  • The ability to challenge unacceptable behaviour, provide firm boundaries, and provide care that meets the needs of the individual.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
