We are seeking a dedicated professional to lead our catering operations, utilizing your expertise in culinary arts to foster positive change in our community.

With a background in catering or professional kitchen management, you will possess exceptional organizational and time-management abilities, alongside a thorough understanding of health and safety regulations in the UK. Your role will encompass overseeing kitchen operations, managing food services for clients, and supervising staff, trainees, and volunteers. You will be enthusiastic about leveraging food as a tool to combat exclusion, isolation, and health challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Provide Outstanding Catering Services

  • Ensure compliance with TH EHO guidelines and SFBB, maintaining food preparation standards and conducting risk assessments, food safety checks, equipment maintenance, and waste disposal.
  • Maximize waste recycling efforts wherever feasible.
  • Oversee the procurement and delivery of food and necessary supplies.
  • Adhere to an established catering budget, providing monthly financial reports as required.
  • Guarantee that food is prepared, presented, and served to the highest standards.
  • Manage staff involved in catering activities, ensuring adherence to safe working practices.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Learning & Training to stay updated on regulations and best practices in catering.
  • Build relationships with local food retailers to enhance in-kind donations and reduce operational food costs.

Implement Our Award-Winning Catering Trainee Program

  • Prepare the kitchen and coordinate the lunch service by supervising a diverse group of trainees with varying support needs.
  • Work closely with the Employability Coordinator to deliver effective training for trainees participating in the lunch service.
  • Provide constructive feedback to trainees regarding their performance and behavior, collaborating with specialists on support needs.
  • Identify additional training requirements for trainees and assist them in achieving their objectives.
  • Establish a rota that offers a variety of tasks and experiences for trainees.

Manage Staff and Participants

  • Collaborate with the Volunteering Development Manager to recruit, retain, and oversee a team of volunteers to support food production.
  • Supervise the chef, including recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing support.
  • Engage with the Fundraising Team to involve Corporate Volunteers in kitchen-based challenges twice a week.

Participate in Planning and Evaluation

  • Contribute to the charity's strategic planning processes, particularly concerning catering activities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems for all culinary activities, ensuring compliance with funding requirements.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in catering or professional kitchen environments.
  • Passionate about using culinary skills to support individuals facing exclusion, isolation, and health issues.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation.
