We are looking for an individual with a strong background in culinary arts and a passion for using food as a tool for social change. Your role will involve overseeing our kitchen operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality meals while managing a diverse team of staff, trainees, and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

Provide Exceptional Catering Services

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including food safety and risk assessments, while maintaining high standards of food preparation and service.
  • Optimize waste management practices, focusing on recycling and sustainable disposal methods.
  • Manage inventory, including the ordering and receipt of food supplies, while adhering to budgetary constraints.
  • Supervise food presentation and service to guarantee the highest quality for our clients.
  • Lead and mentor kitchen staff to promote safe and efficient working practices.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Learning & Training to stay informed about best practices and regulatory updates in the catering sector.
  • Build partnerships with local food suppliers to enhance in-kind contributions and reduce operational costs.

Lead Our Award-Winning Culinary Training Program

  • Prepare the kitchen and manage ingredient procurement to facilitate a successful lunch service with a group of trainees.
  • Work closely with the Employability Coordinator to ensure effective training and support for participants.
  • Provide constructive feedback to trainees, helping them to develop their skills and address any support needs.
  • Identify additional training opportunities for participants to help them achieve their personal and professional goals.
  • Establish a rotating schedule that offers diverse experiences and responsibilities for trainees.

Manage Staff and Volunteers

  • Collaborate with the Volunteering Development Manager to recruit, train, and support volunteers in food production activities.
  • Oversee the recruitment and ongoing development of kitchen staff, ensuring they receive adequate training and support.
  • Engage corporate volunteers in culinary challenges to foster community involvement and support.

Contribute to Planning and Evaluation

  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives to align catering activities with organizational goals.
  • Assist in developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks for culinary programs, ensuring compliance with funding requirements.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in catering or culinary management.
  • Passionate about leveraging food to combat social issues such as exclusion and poor health.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Thorough understanding of UK health and safety regulations.
