Position Overview:

As a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant, you will be instrumental in facilitating the inclusion and academic advancement of students with special educational needs. You will work in partnership with classroom educators, special education professionals, and other stakeholders to foster a constructive and supportive learning atmosphere for all students.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized or small group assistance to students with special educational needs, modifying teaching strategies and resources as required.
  • Execute and evaluate personalized education plans (IEPs) and behavior management strategies in conjunction with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and teaching staff.
  • Collaborate with educators to tailor instruction and develop an inclusive classroom setting.
  • Encourage the involvement and engagement of students with special educational needs in mainstream educational activities.
  • Work closely with the SENCO, educators, and other professionals to exchange insights and information regarding student progress and challenges.
  • Effectively communicate with parents/guardians to provide updates on student development and discuss support strategies for home.
  • Assist in the design and modification of educational resources to cater to the varied needs of students.
  • Partner with teaching staff to identify and implement suitable assistive technologies.
  • Promote and facilitate the growth of independence and self-advocacy skills among students with special educational needs.

Qualifications:

  • Level qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent (Preferred but not mandatory).
  • Experience working with students with special educational needs, ideally in a mainstream educational environment (Preferred but not mandatory).
  • Understanding of various special educational needs, including but not limited to autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and speech and language challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities and the capacity to collaborate effectively with a diverse team of educators and professionals.
  • Patience, empathy, and a sincere dedication to nurturing an inclusive and positive educational environment.
