Job Title: Planning Support Officer

Triumph Consultants Ltd is seeking a skilled Planning Support Officer to join our team. As a Planning Support Officer, you will provide administrative and customer service support to the Development Management Team and Enforcement Team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist applicants and their agents throughout the planning process, providing information on planning, the planning process, and planning enforcement.
  • Help planners and enforcement planners receive and validate new planning applications, cases, and other work, including downloading or scanning application forms, plans, and other information.
  • Conduct research and investigations to support planning decisions and enforcement investigations, including planning histories and local land charge planning information.
  • Provide practical advice to businesses in Stoke-on-Trent on planning and other Council services, and connect them with relevant resources.
  • Generate letters and reports, including decision letters, enforcement letters, and consultation reports, within legal deadlines.
  • Record technical minutes of planning meetings and monitor actions.
  • Display, replace, and remove planning application site notices throughout the city.
  • Assist in preparing for Development Management Committee meetings, including report preparation and presentation.
  • Support internal planning application assessment panels, producing planner's reports and other documentation.
  • Verify whether businesses meet planning conditions and whether development fits planning approval.
  • Support the processing of FOI and Cllr enquiries, collecting and presenting information/data.
Qualifications:
  1. 5 GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Maths.
Skills and Experience:
  1. Minimum 12 months recent experience in a similar role or context, ideally in a public sector organisation.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge and qualifications for a front-line, administrative, and analytical role.
  3. Demonstrates some knowledge of the planning process and planning law.
  4. Demonstrates a general understanding of commercial and other motivations affecting businesses.
  5. Demonstrates good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Demonstrates attention to detail and accuracy when collecting, interpreting, recording, and storing information.
  7. General understanding of systematic performance management and improvement systems.
  8. Strong IT skills, including Microsoft packages or equivalent.
