Position: Legal Advisor - EMEA Region

Location: Haddenham, UK

The Legal Advisor role for the EMEA region is an integral part of the EMEA Legal Team, offering a broad spectrum of support to both the Consumer and Flavour Solutions (B2B) sectors, as well as various enabling functions across the UK and much of the EMEA area.

This position reports directly to the EMEA Deputy General Counsel and involves close collaboration on a daily basis. The role also necessitates working in partnership with senior management across the EMEA region, key account managers, and colleagues from Commercial, Marketing, Procurement, Finance, Regulatory, Supply Chain, and other departments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviewing, drafting, negotiating, and providing counsel on a diverse array of B2B supplier and customer agreements, including those related to product development, supply, distribution, e-commerce, and social media.
  • Collaborating with senior management on legal and regulatory matters that influence ongoing business operations and future growth opportunities, facilitating opportunity and risk assessments to support informed business decisions.
  • Assisting the Procurement team with specific legal advice, contract evaluations, and negotiation support.
  • Providing guidance on competition law, data privacy concerns, industry standards, and advertising regulations.
  • Creating, enhancing, and executing legal processes, policies, and training programs.
  • Conducting research and preparing legal briefs and advisory notes.
  • Effectively managing external legal counsel under the direction of the Deputy General Counsel.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • LLB or equivalent legal qualification with a minimum of 4 years post-qualification experience.
  • Possession of a current SRA Practising Certificate.
  • Trained and qualified at a reputable law firm or chambers.
  • Preferred experience in the FMCG sector, ideally within a multinational context.
  • Strong foundation in English contract law with extensive experience in drafting and negotiating B2B contracts governed by English law, including cross-border agreements.
  • Good understanding of IP licensing principles and experience in negotiating and drafting IP agreements.
  • Familiarity with UK Competition Law and data privacy regulations, as well as knowledge of the UK Bribery Act, FCPA, and Modern Slavery Act.
  • Experience with UK advertising and marketing regulations, particularly in the digital and e-commerce sectors.
  • Proven ability to instruct and manage external legal counsel.
  • Experience in a cross-functional matrix organization.
  • Capacity to adopt a pragmatic, risk-based approach, leveraging legal expertise to support the strategic goals of the business.
  • Ability to articulate legal concepts and issues clearly and concisely at all organizational levels.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to persuade and influence stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and make decisions autonomously, maintaining composure under pressure.
  • Effective negotiation capabilities.
