Position: Legal Advisor - EMEA

Location: Haddenham, UK

The Legal Advisor, EMEA position is an integral part of the EMEA Legal Team, providing comprehensive support to both the Consumer and Flavour Solutions (B2B) sectors, along with various enabling functions throughout the UK and the broader EMEA region.

This role will report directly to the EMEA Deputy General Counsel and will frequently collaborate with senior management, key account managers, and teams across Commercial, Marketing, Procurement, Finance, Regulatory, Supply Chain, and other departments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluating, drafting, negotiating, and providing counsel on a diverse array of B2B supplier and customer agreements, encompassing product development, supply, distribution, e-commerce contracts, and social media arrangements.
  • Consulting with senior management on legal and regulatory matters that affect ongoing business operations and future growth prospects, aiding in opportunity and risk evaluation and informed decision-making.
  • Assisting the Procurement department with targeted advice on specific issues, contract assessments, and support during negotiations.
  • Providing guidance on competition law and data privacy concerns, industry standards, and advertising regulations.
  • Creating, enhancing, and executing legal function process improvements, policies, and procedures, alongside delivering legal training.
  • Conducting research and composing legal briefs and advisory notes.
  • Effectively managing external legal counsel under the direction of the Deputy General Counsel.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • LLB or equivalent in Law with a minimum of 4 years post-qualification experience.
  • Possession of a current SRA Practising Certificate.
  • Trained and qualified at a reputable law firm or chambers.
  • Preferred experience in the FMCG sector, ideally within a multinational context.
  • Strong foundation in English contract law with extensive experience in drafting and negotiating B2B contracts under English law, including cross-border agreements.
  • Solid understanding of IP licensing principles with experience in negotiating and drafting IP licenses.
  • Familiarity with UK Competition Law and data privacy regulations, as well as knowledge of the UK Bribery Act, FCPA, and Modern Slavery Act.
  • Experience with UK advertising and marketing regulations, particularly in the digital/e-commerce domain.
  • Experience in instructing and managing external legal counsel.
  • Experience in a cross-functional matrix organization.
  • Ability to adopt a pragmatic, risk-based approach and leverage legal expertise to support the strategic goals of the business.
  • Capability to articulate legal concepts and issues clearly and concisely to all organizational levels.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to persuade and influence effectively.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently and make decisions autonomously while maintaining composure under pressure.
  • Effective negotiation abilities.
