Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Transport Operations Manager to join our team at Stobart. As a key member of our Transport Operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the effective running of our transport operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Resource Management: Collaborate with our Myworkforce team to ensure compliance with all MWF activity and tasks, including resource planning and managing the safety and cost-effective utilization of drivers and equipment.
  • Driver Performance: Own, monitor, and control the driver de-briefing process to ensure that agreed standards of performance are consistently achieved through effective communication and management.
  • Driver Workforce Management: Manage and support the driver workforce while engaged on activity to ensure full legal compliance, ensuring records are correctly completed and maintained in accordance with procedure.
  • Performance Management: Manage all aspects of driver performance to achieve or surpass expectations and KPIs.
  • Health and Safety: Promote company Health & Safety and employment policies within the transport operation.
  • Site Audits: Conduct site audits and work closely with the Transport Manager to ensure KPIs are met.
  • Customer Support: Support the daily operational workflow on the customer site by providing answers to urgent queries.
  • Relationship Building: Actively work with the customer and site management team to achieve performance, addressing any concerns or questions in a timely manner.
  • Recruitment: Manage the recruitment of permanent and temporary staff as required to cover business peaks.
  • Incident Reporting: Ensure that the Transport Manager & the H&S team are made aware of all accidents, dangerous occurrences & near misses, and that the relevant reports are completed for all such incidents.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Identify and escalate any maintenance and repair issues on site and within the depot.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure that all daily vehicle check, vehicle inspection & defect reporting procedures are in place.
  • Administrative Tasks: Administer the vehicle and trailer maintenance programme, including servicing, MOTs, VOR, weekly cab checks, and maintaining all records.
  • Disciplinary Hearings: Coordinate and attend investigation/disciplinary hearings as required.
  • Depot Initiatives: Support and collaboratively work with the Transport Manager on any Depot initiatives to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Overtime and Expenses: Coordinate overtime payments, process driver expenses, and enable resolution of pay queries.
  • Depot Administration: Carry out and support with Depot administrative tasks.
  • Driver Recruitment and Onboarding: Collaborate with the Transport Manager on driver recruitment and onboarding.
  • Training and Development: Ensure all training needs are met for drivers, including inductions, re-training, SSW, etc.
  • Problem-Solving: Take the lead in resolving unforeseen problems as they arise, ensuring appropriate resolution and utilizing the learning to plan for future similar scenarios.
  • Relationship Building: Build constructive working relationships with supplementary business departments such as MWF, Fleet, HR, Planning, and Finance, based on mutual trust and respect.
Requirements
  • Proven Track Record: Proven track record in Transport & Logistics industry.
  • Resource Management: Demonstrable experience of successful resource management.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent organisation and communication skills.
  • KPI Management: Proven track record of working to clearly defined service delivery KPIs.
  • Health and Safety: Excellent understanding of Health and Safety processes.
  • Improvement Driven: Energetic and has a natural desire to generate and drive improvements.
  • People Engagement: Good people engagement skills, self-driven, positive can-do attitude.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a customer-facing environment.
