About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transport Operations Manager to join our Transport Operations team at our site. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective running of our busy transport operation, meeting operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and adhering to legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and support a team of drivers, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and procedures
  • Monitor and control the driver de-briefing process to ensure high standards of performance are consistently achieved
  • Manage all aspects of driver performance, including training and development
  • Promote company Health & Safety and employment policies within the transport operation
  • Conduct site audits and work closely with the Transport Manager to ensure KPIs are met
  • Support the daily operational workflow on the customer site by providing answers to queries
  • Actively work with the customer and site management team to achieve performance and address any concerns or questions
  • Manage the recruitment of permanent and temporary staff as required to cover business peaks
  • Ensure that the Transport Manager and H&S team are made aware of all accidents, dangerous occurrences, and near misses
  • Identify and escalate any maintenance and repair issues on site and within the depot
  • Administer the vehicle and trailer maintenance programme, including servicing, MOTs, VOR, weekly cab checks, and maintaining all records
  • Coordinate and attend investigation/disciplinary hearings as required
  • Support and work collaboratively with the Transport Manager on any depot initiatives to ensure continuous improvement
  • Coordinate overtime payments, process driver expenses, and enable resolution of pay queries
  • Carry out and support with depot administrative tasks
  • Ensure all training needs are met for drivers, including inductions, re-training, and SSW
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • A proven track record in the Transport & Logistics industry
  • Demonstrable experience of successful resource management
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills
  • Proven track record of working to clearly defined service delivery KPIs
  • Excellent understanding of Health and Safety processes
  • Energetic and a natural desire to generate and drive improvements
  • Good people engagement skills, self-driven, positive can-do attitude
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a customer-facing environment
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, challenging, and dynamic environment
