As a Transport Shift Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the effective running of our transport operation, meeting operational KPIs, and adhering to legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operational Management: Collaborate with our Myworkforce team to ensure compliance with all MWF activity and tasks, including resource planning and managing the safety and cost-effective utilisation of drivers and equipment.
  • Driver Performance: Own, monitor, and control the driver de-briefing process to ensure agreed standards of performance are consistently achieved through effective communication and management.
  • Workforce Management: Manage and support the driver workforce, ensuring full legal compliance, accurate record-keeping, and maintaining up-to-date personnel files.
  • Performance Management: Manage all aspects of driver performance to achieve or surpass expectations and KPIs.
  • Health and Safety: Promote company Health & Safety and employment policies within the transport operation.
  • Site Audits: Conduct site audits and work closely with the Transport Manager to ensure KPIs are met.
  • Customer Support: Support the daily operational workflow on the customer site by providing answers to queries and addressing concerns in a timely manner.
  • Recruitment: Manage the recruitment of permanent and temporary staff as required to cover business peaks.
  • Incident Reporting: Ensure that the Transport Manager and H&S team are informed of all accidents, dangerous occurrences, and near misses, and that relevant reports are completed.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Identify and escalate any maintenance and repair issues on site and within the depot.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure that all daily vehicle checks, vehicle inspections, and defect reporting procedures are in place.
  • Administrative Tasks: Administer the vehicle and trailer maintenance programme, including servicing, MOTs, VOR, weekly cab checks, and maintaining all records.
  • Disciplinary Hearings: Coordinate and attend investigation/disciplinary hearings as required.
  • Depot Initiatives: Support and collaborate with the Transport Manager on any depot initiatives to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Payroll and Expenses: Coordinate overtime payments, process driver expenses, and enable resolution of pay queries.
  • Administrative Support: Carry out and support with depot administrative tasks.
  • Driver Recruitment: Collaborate with the Transport Manager on driver recruitment and on-boarding.
  • Training and Development: Ensure all training needs are met for drivers, including inductions, re-training, and SSW.
Requirements:
  • Industry Experience: Proven track record in the Transport & Logistics industry.
  • Resource Management: Demonstrable experience of successful resource management.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent organisation and communication skills.
  • Performance Metrics: Proven track record of working to clearly defined service delivery KPIs.
  • Health and Safety Knowledge: Excellent understanding of Health and Safety processes.
  • Improvement Focus: Energetic and has a natural desire to generate and drive improvements.
  • People Engagement: Good people engagement skills, self-driven, positive can-do attitude.
  • Customer Interaction: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a customer-facing environment.
