This is a key role that will ensure the Royal College of Nursing is proactive in the development of policy positions on current, new and emerging health and nursing issues.

As the Director of Policy, you will have strategic responsibility for policy across the RCN Group and operational management of the RCN UK Policy & Public Affairs department based in London. You will provide strategic policy advice to the Chief of Staff and the RCN's General Secretary & Chief Executive and work effectively with a wide range of key internal stakeholders including Executive Directors, the RCN Institute of Nursing Excellence and its directors, the RCN's elected governing Council and members across the UK to influence in relevant policy areas.

You will monitor the policy and political environment for salient and emerging issues and provide sound judgement, quick thinking and decisive leadership as you provide strategic advice to senior colleagues and elected members at the top of the organisation while motivating and leading a team of around 20 policy professionals.

Key responsibilities include:

* Developing and implementing policy positions on current, new and emerging health and nursing issues
* Providing strategic policy advice to the Chief of Staff and the RCN's General Secretary & Chief Executive
* Working effectively with a wide range of key internal stakeholders to influence in relevant policy areas
* Monitoring the policy and political environment for salient and emerging issues
* Providing sound judgement, quick thinking and decisive leadership as you provide strategic advice to senior colleagues and elected members at the top of the organisation
