Purchasing Team Leader

We are seeking a skilled Purchasing Team Leader to join our team at Wärtsilä, a leading provider of smart technologies and sustainable solutions for the marine and energy industries.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a small team of purchasers to achieve agreed targets in line with the output plan. This will involve managing communication between internal departments to ensure quality of supply and on-time delivery, as well as identifying and driving improvements and facilitating excellent supplier relations.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the Procurement team at the Havant site, ensuring day-to-day operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  2. Execute tactical purchasing strategies for both direct and indirect procurement.
  3. Manage team issues, escalating where necessary, and drive people development and growth of skills and knowledge within the procurement team.
  4. Support the Supply Chain Manager in meeting supply chain KPIs and initiatives.
  5. Negotiate and place Purchase Orders, ensuring timely delivery and vendor performance.
  6. Manage relationships with existing suppliers and consolidate and leverage direct and indirect spend.
  7. Review and negotiate payment terms and manage supplier performance to ensure output is in line with SLAs and KPIs.
  8. Proactively manage the performance and development of the Purchasing Team.
Requirements:
  1. Previous experience in a purchasing environment, with a strong understanding of best practices.
  2. Manufacturing experience, with a focus on process improvement and efficiency.
  3. SAP MRP experience, with the ability to interrogate data to identify problems and drive improvement activities.
  4. Strong leadership, decision-making, and organisational skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with others.
