Purchasing Team Leader

We are seeking a skilled Purchasing Team Leader to join our team at Wärtsilä, a leading provider of smart technologies and sustainable solutions for the marine and energy industries.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a small team of purchasers to achieve agreed targets in line with the output plan. This will involve managing communication between internal departments to ensure quality of supply and on-time delivery, as well as identifying and driving improvements and facilitating excellent supplier relations.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the Procurement team at the Havant site, ensuring day-to-day operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  2. Execute tactical purchasing strategies for both direct and indirect purchasing, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of goods and services.
  3. Manage team issues, escalating where necessary to ensure smooth operation.
  4. Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of the procurement team.
  5. Collaborate with the Supply Chain Manager to meet supply chain KPIs and initiatives.
  6. Ensure all purchase requests are actioned in a timely manner, delivering the required service to internal customers.
  7. Negotiate and place Purchase Orders, ensuring reporting and delivery promises are maintained by vendors.
  8. Manage relationships with existing suppliers, identifying opportunities for improvement and cost reduction.
  9. Consolidate and leverage direct and indirect spend, negotiating Strategic Supply Agreements with key suppliers to provide commercial benefit to Wärtsilä.
  10. Review and negotiate payment terms, ensuring alignment with company policies.
  11. Monitor supplier performance, ensuring output meets SLAs and KPIs.
  12. Proactively manage the performance and development of the Purchasing Team.
Requirements:
  1. Proven experience in purchasing, with a strong understanding of best practices.
  2. Manufacturing experience, with a focus on process improvement and efficiency.
  3. Previous experience with SAP MRP, with the ability to analyze data and drive improvement activities.
  4. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and develop team members.
  5. Ability to analyze data and identify opportunities for improvement.
