Respiratory Care Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Respiratory Care Specialist at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care and services.
Key Responsibilities- Support the delivery of our Home Pulmonary Rehabilitation service across Morecambe Bay, working closely with our specialist respiratory multidisciplinary team.
- Conduct holistic patient assessments, including exercise testing, functional assessment, clinical observations, and symptom questionnaires, in collaboration with registered clinicians.
- Visit patients in their own homes to provide patient education, treatment, and deliver programs of therapy/rehabilitation or exercise under the remote supervision of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or nurse colleagues.
- Measure and install small items of occupational therapy equipment, provide brief intervention smoking cessation and motivational interviewing support, assess and correct inhaler and exercise technique, and record clinical consultations to electronic medical records.
- Travel independently across Morecambe Bay to visit patients in their homes, deliver equipment, and attend service meetings/training.
- Work autonomously within your own scope of practice, actively participating in continuing professional development, reflecting on your own performance, and seeking feedback.
- Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care or Assistant Practitioner Qualification or equivalent, or a willingness to work towards this qualification within 12 months of starting in post.
- Full UK driving license or ability to travel independently to areas not served by public transport.
- Computer skills relevant to the role, including electronic patient records, EMIS, and STRATA.
- Literacy skills at level 2 or above (GCSE, Functional Skills, or equivalent).
- Training relevant to occupational therapy or physiotherapy core skills, such as OTAGO, Trusted Assessor, or Therapeutic Moving and Handling.
- Experience working in an occupational therapy, physiotherapy, or other related allied health professional service.
- Experience making independent clinical and professional decisions at Assistant Practitioner level, taking into consideration trust/departmental policies and procedures.
- Experience of managing your own caseload, seeking support when required.
- Experience of manual handling, including legislation and techniques.
- Knowledge and ability to follow trust policies and procedures.
- Proven ability to effectively communicate with people.
- Able to work well as part of a team.
- Good observational skills.
- Physical ability to complete the role with reasonable adjustments if required.
- Demonstrates the ability to problem-solve and think creatively.
