We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Respiratory Care Specialist to join our team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust. As a key member of our Community Respiratory Service, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to patients with chronic respiratory disease.
Key Responsibilities- Support registered clinicians with holistic patient assessments, including exercise testing, functional assessment, clinical observations, and symptom questionnaires.
- Visit patients in their own homes to carry out patient education, treatment, and deliver programs of therapy/rehab or exercise under the remote supervision of Physiotherapy/OT or Nurse colleagues.
- Measure for/install small items of OT equipment.
- Provide brief intervention smoking cessation and motivational interviewing support.
- Assess and correct inhaler and exercise technique.
- Record clinical consultations to EMIS web electronic records.
- Record PR clinical audit data on excel.
- Travel independently across Morecambe Bay to visit people in their homes, deliver equipment, and attend service meetings/training.
- Work autonomously within your own scope of practice.
- Actively participate in CPD, reflecting on your own performance and seeking feedback.
University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust provides care outside of the hospital setting, including community locations and people's own homes. Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centers, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals, and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health, and manage their conditions through high-quality care, advice, and support.
Requirements- Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care/Assistant Practitioner Qualification or equivalent or a willingness to work towards this qualification within 12 months of starting in post.
- Full UK driving license/Ability to travel independently to areas not served by public transport.
- Computer skills relevant to the role (Electronic patient records, EMIS, STRATA).
- Literacy skills at level 2 or above (GCSE, Functional Skills or equivalent).
- Training relevant to Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy Core Skills, for example, OTAGO, Trusted Assessor, Therapeutic Moving and Handling.
- Experience working in a community health setting.
- Able to demonstrate commitment to continued Professional Development.
- Experience in delivering information in a group setting.
- Experience prescribing small aids and adaptations.
