Position: Logistics Operations Supervisor
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Reports To: Operations Director
Work Environment: This role is situated in a distribution center, stockroom, and retail environment. The position frequently utilizes standard office tools such as computers and telephones, as well as typical warehouse equipment including hand trucks, box cutters, step ladders, and tape dispensers.
Physical Requirements: The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be fulfilled by an employee to effectively execute the essential functions of this role. While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly. This role is dynamic and necessitates standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing at various times throughout the day. The employee may often lift and/or transport items exceeding 30 pounds. Specific visual capabilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Summary:
- This position serves as a vital component in the operational framework, fostering a top-tier function and promoting excellence across key processes.
- The individual will be accountable for the upkeep of our distribution center, ensuring compliance and that all equipment is functioning optimally, while providing the team with the necessary resources to carry out warehouse tasks.
- Oversight of all inventory within the facility, from packaging to shelving, will be a key responsibility.
- Collaboration with the Operations Director and the operations management team to enhance the logistics department at Drake's, streamlining processes from inbound to outbound logistics, while implementing and establishing future enhancements in logistics and warehousing.
- Understanding the current logistics operations across all departments – production, wholesale, retail, and e-commerce – to identify immediate improvements and envision future enhancements for Drake's logistics operations.
- Gaining comprehensive knowledge of all Drake's products, including an in-depth understanding of tariff codes to ensure proper licensing and smooth delivery to all destinations.
- Engaging with existing and new carriers to ensure optimal service levels at the lowest costs, while guaranteeing that our wholesale and e-commerce clients receive the expected standards from Drake's.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the maintenance of the distribution center.
- Manage inventory, including packaging and supplies.
- Direct logistics operations while enhancing warehouse efficiency and supply chain effectiveness.
- Evaluate transportation providers, assess costs and rates, and explore shipping alternatives.
- Recruit and coordinate carriers based on requirements and availability.
- Manage shipping operations within the organization.
- Supervise inbound and outbound stock.
- Facilitate communication with the Production department regarding the flow of raw materials and finished goods, including booking freight forwarders and compiling necessary documentation.
- Ensure timely delivery of all wholesale orders within the designated seasonal delivery timeframe to clients.
- Maintain relationships with logistics partners to ensure efficient goods delivery, providing exceptional customer service throughout.
- Assist all departments with international shipping needs and related documentation.
- Act as a primary contact for inquiries or updates regarding logistics operations, both current and future.
- Create standard operating procedures for the global import and export of goods, encompassing all shipping methods – sea, road, and air freight.
- Collaborate closely with logistics associates to ensure all necessary shipping and customs documentation is current.
- Continuously assess existing operations and logistics procedures to streamline processes and reduce costs throughout the year.
- Manage returns from wholesale and private clients, ensuring timely issuance of credit notes.
- Allocate inventory to global wholesale accounts in-season, working with Wholesale and Merchandising departments to develop seasonal delivery plans.
- Support the Wholesale team with shipping merchandise and fixtures for global events and sales campaigns.
- Generate weekly delivery performance reports aligned with seasonal trade.
- Monitor quality control and maintain optimal warehouse capacity concerning deliveries and shipments.
- Develop and analyze budgets, providing reports to senior management and directors.
- Ensure compliance of Drake's shipping methods with applicable rules, regulations, and laws.
- Verify and meet established deadlines throughout the management, product fulfillment, shipping, and transportation cycle.
Qualifications:
- Degree level or equivalent (minimum of 3+ years' experience in a commercial environment, preferably in the apparel sector).
- Demonstrated experience in people management.
- In-depth knowledge of logistics supply chains and global distribution.
- Strong understanding of inventory management, warehouse management systems, production, merchandising, and shipping software.
- Familiarity with HS code classification, international customs regulations, and compliance.
- Ability to negotiate and benchmark freight rates and services.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Professional demeanor in managing external contacts, with a motivation to make informed decisions for the organization.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on building positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Successful candidates will be proactive, driven, passionate about logistics, capable of multitasking, and able to perform well under pressure while going the extra mile to achieve organizational goals.
