Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated clinical or counselling psychologist to assume a pivotal leadership role within the secondary care psychological services in Barking & Dagenham. This newly established position underscores the critical need for psychological expertise and leadership in secondary care settings, including the integration of Community Psychology into our service offerings.

The successful candidate will collaborate with a highly regarded team of psychologists committed to delivering exceptional care to service users and their families. We are looking for an individual who shares our vision of adhering to best practices and national guidelines while demonstrating flexibility and creativity in developing innovative psychological services.

Main Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

  • Provide operational and clinical leadership for psychologists within secondary care mental health services.
  • Support the implementation of best practice guidelines and contribute to ongoing projects aimed at transforming secondary services.
  • Engage in both direct and indirect clinical work, offering specialized assessments, interventions, and consultations to individuals and teams.
  • Undertake operational tasks that facilitate effective service delivery and represent psychological services at various organizational levels.

Working Environment

Probationary Period

All new hires will undergo a probationary period, with specific exemptions for internal applicants.

Compensation

This role includes a High-Cost Area Supplement, enhancing the overall remuneration package.

Detailed Job Responsibilities

The role requires working under the guidance of secondary care psychological leads, ensuring ample support for the post-holder. The position entails 30 hours of work per week, including supervisory responsibilities and operational leadership. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in multidisciplinary collaboration and service development.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • HCPC registration as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist.
  • Experience in psychological assessment and treatment for clients with complex psychological needs in adult mental health.
  • Proficiency in managing high-risk cases and severe mental health challenges.
  • Experience working with hard-to-reach populations and knowledge of assertive outreach principles.
  • Post-qualification experience in teaching, training, and consultation.
  • Leadership experience in initiatives addressing health inequalities.
