Position Overview
The Rakyan laboratory is dedicated to exploring the genetic and epigenetic factors that govern mammalian Ribosomal DNA (rDNA). Utilizing advanced molecular biology techniques alongside sophisticated computational methodologies, our aim is to unravel the genetic and epigenetic intricacies that play a role in various aspects of rDNA biology. We hypothesize that genetic diversity within rDNA may significantly influence both molecular and phenotypic outcomes. To support this, we are engaged in extensive integrative analyses of human whole-genome sequencing datasets. Our focus includes leveraging both short- and long-read sequencing data to examine how genetic variations in human rDNA may contribute to disease development, particularly in cancer, while also investigating the evolutionary context of rDNA variations.
Candidate Profile
The ideal applicant will possess a PhD in a relevant discipline such as computational biology or bioinformatics, complemented by several years of postdoctoral experience specifically in the analysis of repetitive genomic regions. Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, Java, Matlab, C, and MySQL is essential. Previous experience with Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS), whole genome sequencing analyses, and computational assessments of epigenomic and transcriptomic data is also required. Evidence of expertise in these areas should be demonstrated through multiple first-author publications in pertinent fields. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to mentor junior lab members and assist in grant proposal writing.
