Position Overview
The Rakyan laboratory is dedicated to exploring the genetic and epigenetic factors that govern mammalian Ribosomal DNA (rDNA). Utilizing advanced molecular biology techniques alongside sophisticated computational methodologies, we aim to uncover the genetic and epigenetic dynamics that play a crucial role in rDNA biology. Our hypothesis posits that genetic diversity within rDNA can significantly influence both molecular and phenotypic expressions. To validate this, we are engaged in extensive integrative analyses of human whole-genome sequencing datasets. Our focus includes leveraging both short- and long-read sequencing data to investigate the relationships between genetic variation in human rDNA and the onset of diseases, such as cancer, while also tracing the evolutionary lineage of rDNA variations.
Candidate Profile
The ideal applicant will possess a PhD in a relevant discipline, such as computational biology or bioinformatics, complemented by several years of postdoctoral experience in analyzing repetitive genomic regions. Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, Java, Matlab, C, and MySQL is essential. Experience in Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS), whole genome sequencing analysis, and computational analyses of epigenomic and transcriptomic data is required. Candidates must demonstrate their expertise through a portfolio of first-author publications in pertinent fields. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to mentor junior lab members and contribute to grant proposal writing.
