About the Role

The Senior Advisor will lead work with whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisations, and Māori communities to develop and implement initiatives that will improve long-term economic and social outcomes for Māori.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies to improve Māori economic and social outcomes
  • Build and maintain relationships with whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisations, and Māori communities
  • Provide advice and guidance to Te Puni Kōkiri teams on Māori development initiatives
  • Manage local level contractual arrangements and inform investment decisions
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to Advisors in their region

Requirements

  • Experience working with whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisations, and Māori communities
  • Commercial experience with analytical skills and ability to identify and support possible growth opportunities
  • Experience as an advisor, including understanding the machinery of government, the public service, and public sector processes
  • Data and analytical skills, including knowledge of investments and contracts
  • Commitment to building long-term significant relationships and valuing diverse perspectives and experiences
  • Broad understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and recognition of the importance of the Treaty from both Māori and Crown perspectives
  • Comfortable working in an ao Māori environment and in situations where tikanga is observed
  • Excellent communication skills, including a conversational level of te reo Māori
  • Clean full motor vehicle driver's licence
