Qualifications and Experience

Essential: A degree in Psychology is required.
Professional Qualification: A recognized qualification in Educational Psychology is mandatory.
Experience: Proven track record as a qualified Educational Psychologist or as a trainee on placement within the public sector.

Core Competencies

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Expertise in consultation methodologies, conducting psychological evaluations, and designing as well as implementing intervention strategies in collaboration with educational institutions and other professionals.
  • A solid grasp of psychological principles and their practical application in educational settings.
  • A comprehensive understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices that impact children and young individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEN/D).
  • In-depth knowledge of the challenges faced by vulnerable students with SEN/D.
  • A high degree of self-awareness regarding cultural sensitivity and a commitment to culturally informed practices in Educational Psychology.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, including effective consultation techniques that foster collaboration with colleagues, children, young people, and their families.
  • The capability to seek guidance and support when confronted with complex situations.
  • The willingness to travel as required.
Responsibilities

The role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Delivering psychological consultation, assessment, and interventions aimed at enhancing educational outcomes and life opportunities for children and young people.
  • Participating in a multi-agency graduated response to requests for educational psychology services for children and young individuals receiving SEN support.
  • Providing statutory recommendations for Education, Health, and Care Needs Assessments in accordance with established service standards.
  • Facilitating workforce development through training, consultation, and practical support for educational staff.
  • Contributing to the execution of initiatives led by the Educational Psychology Service and collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to achieve designated objectives.
