Job Title: Research Technician

The successful candidate will provide molecular biology and insectary support to research projects focused on functional genetics in mosquitoes, particularly towards the study of insecticide resistance. Your role will involve supporting researchers in the group by utilizing molecular biology, CRISPR genome editing, and general genetic manipulation techniques to characterize and manipulate the mosquito genome.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records of methods, sample details, and results.
  • Provide an efficient and effective technical service to research teams, ensuring seamless collaboration and communication.
  • Perform general plasmid cloning and screening procedures, applying knowledge of molecular biology principles.
  • Conduct basic bioinformatic analysis and plasmid and primer design, utilizing software and tools to optimize results.
  • Inject mosquito embryos with DNA constructs, demonstrating expertise in genetic manipulation techniques.
  • Assist in designing guide RNAs for CRISPR-based genome editing, applying knowledge of molecular biology and genetics.
  • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures and risk assessments, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Collate and assess data using Excel, Prism, and other appropriate software, providing insights and recommendations to research teams.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong knowledge of general principles of molecular biology, including DNA cloning and genetic manipulation techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, including DNA cloning and PCR.
  • Relevant experience working within a research laboratory, with knowledge of standard laboratory protocols.
  • Ability to implement and adapt biological techniques or protocols, ensuring efficient and effective results.
  • Experience conducting scientific experiments, with a strong understanding of experimental design and data analysis.
