Preston, Lancashire, United Kingdom Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Full time

Overview of the Role

Are you a dedicated and enthusiastic professional seeking a rewarding opportunity? Look no further.

Join our innovative clinical neuroscience psychology team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. This position is centered on providing psychological support to individuals impacted by neurological disorders, acquired brain injuries, strokes, and functional neurological conditions. As we expand our clinical neuropsychology services, new pathways will be developed in collaboration with our consultant psychologists and the leadership of the clinical health psychology service.

The clinical neuroscience psychology team operates within the broader clinical health psychology framework. You will engage in various clinical and governance initiatives alongside consultant psychologists.

We are looking for candidates who are:

  • Highly skilled, experienced, adaptable, compassionate, and reflective clinical psychologists.
  • Possessing a specialized interest in neuropsychology, excellent interpersonal abilities, and a passion for exploring innovative practices with seasoned multidisciplinary team (MDT) colleagues.
  • Committed to enhancing the evidence base and contributing to the dynamic clinical health psychology service.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary duty will be to deliver psychological care within a specialized adult clinical neuroscience and health psychology service as part of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

You will be responsible for providing both inpatient and outpatient psychological care to patients with various neurological conditions, acquired brain injuries, and functional neurological disorders. This includes conducting specialized assessments and formulating complex neuropsychological issues to develop and implement tailored care and management plans that address each patient's unique clinical requirements.

In addition to personalized care, you will facilitate brief group psychoeducation sessions for patients and their families. Effective communication with patients, caregivers, and colleagues within the multidisciplinary team, as well as other professionals and community services, is essential. Your role will involve advocating for psychological care and ensuring patient and caregiver involvement throughout the treatment process.

Furthermore, you will participate in training, audits, and service enhancements within the clinical health psychology service, guided by NHS priorities and advancements in the psychological and therapy fields. You will promote equality and diversity, adhering to relevant legislation and trust policies. Continuous improvement in your practice, the service, and the Trust is a core commitment.

Working with Us

Our organization comprises 10,000 dedicated individuals striving to provide exceptional services to our patients. Regardless of your role, you contribute to the care of 370,000 individuals in our local community and provide specialized care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire and Cumbria.

Being part of our team offers you the opportunity to gain knowledge and a sense of pride, knowing that your contributions genuinely impact patient and staff support, enabling us to continue delivering outstanding healthcare throughout our local areas.

You will have access to diverse development opportunities, acquire new skills, meet remarkable individuals, and engage in experiences you may never have encountered before.

You will make a difference, be encouraged to think creatively, take bold steps, and help drive innovation for continuous improvement. Every action we take centers around patient care and enhancing their experience, making your role crucial and something to take pride in.

Detailed Responsibilities

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Delivering a specialized Adult Neuroscience Psychology Service across the Physical Health Specialties within Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
  • Providing highly specialized neuropsychologically informed care for patients with various neurological conditions, acquired brain injuries, strokes, and functional neurological disorders, including both inpatient and outpatient care.
  • Conducting short-term specialized neuropsychological assessments, formulating rehabilitation strategies, and offering consultation on patients' psychological presentations and functioning across various settings.
  • Delivering short-term therapeutic interventions and psychological rehabilitation to patients.
  • Contributing to integrated multidisciplinary care through joint appointments and MDT assessment clinics for patients referred by our MDT colleagues.
  • Training and supporting MDT colleagues in psychologically informed care through education, consultation, and clinical supervision.
  • Promoting patient needs, clinical symptoms, and care approaches within the MDT.
  • Collaborating with consultant clinical psychologists, MDT colleagues, and key stakeholders.
  • Working autonomously within professional guidelines and frameworks governing each clinical area.
  • Engaging in personal professional and leadership development, including reflective practice.
  • Participating in research, audits, and service evaluation projects, including reporting on clinical activity and effectiveness.
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of care pathways.
