London, Greater London, United Kingdom Reinsurance Group of America Full time

Position Overview

This pivotal role within the UK Business Development division will shape and execute strategic initiatives, manage key product lines, foster client relationships across the UK and Irish markets, and spearhead the sourcing, evaluation, strategy, and execution of reinsurance transactions, including standalone and flow longevity swaps, funded reinsurance, and acquisitions. The individual will bolster RGA's standing in the industry by representing the company through thought leadership and relationship cultivation with reinsurance buyers, financial institutions, consultants, and other external partners. Collaboration with the UK team is essential to uphold RGA's reputation for exemplary client service and transaction execution. Close cooperation with pricing, investment solutions, and other subject matter experts is crucial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with broader teams to ensure RGA achieves its new business and financial objectives in the reinsurance sector.
  • Lead or assist in the formulation of product strategies and action plans for potential new opportunities and clients, partnering with other teams to design and structure innovative solutions.
  • Identify and prioritize market opportunities. Respond promptly to tenders and client inquiries, seeking input from other functions as necessary, driving strategy, and monitoring progress.
  • Oversee negotiations and structuring of reinsurance solutions to create executable transactions. Manage the execution of transactions, tracking issues and challenges while ensuring compliance with RGA procedures and obtaining necessary approvals.
  • Cultivate relationships with primary clients, brokers, banks, and consultants. Manage key client accounts, driving client-focused initiatives and positioning RGA as the trusted advisor and preferred reinsurance partner.
  • Gather market intelligence and insights into market activities and partnership opportunities. Communicate findings to the broader team and senior internal stakeholders.
  • Enhance RGA's brand and reputation in the market by presenting at industry seminars and publishing articles in relevant industry publications. Contribute to the development and implementation of the UK marketing and branding strategy.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing industry publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Understand international accounting, solvency, and other regulations affecting clients in assigned regions (e.g., IFRS17, Solvency 2) and share expertise with others in RGA through relevant working groups and project teams.
  • Analyze financial statements, embedded value reports, and other public information for major account clients.

Qualifications & Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience in insurance, reinsurance, or finance in a comparable role.
  • Experience in client-facing, sales, or structuring roles.
  • Proven track record of leading a deal team through complex execution processes and negotiating with large clients on high-value transactions.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience and professional qualifications are preferred.
  • Understanding of insurance accounting, tax, regulatory requirements, and investment principles.
  • This role may be suitable for a qualified actuary, but candidates with non-actuarial backgrounds are also encouraged to apply.
  • Strong knowledge of local markets and a comprehensive understanding of the drivers within the financial services industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage teams with multiple layers of management and influence key stakeholders both internally and externally.

Skills & Abilities

  • Relationship Building: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with internal and external stakeholders across all levels, departments, and regions.
  • Client Focus: A solution-oriented mindset with a commitment to exceeding client expectations.
  • Strategic Execution: Capability to define and implement business development strategies both independently and collaboratively.
  • Results-Driven: Strong emphasis on achieving goals, meeting deadlines, and managing a transaction-based workload.
  • Deal Negotiation: Outstanding negotiation skills to finalize large transactions.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration: Ability to foster a collaborative environment, promoting team spirit with an international perspective.
  • Communication & Innovation: Excellent written and presentation skills with the capacity to develop innovative solutions.
  • Technical & Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of both technical and commercial dimensions of business development.
