Key Responsibilities

Accurate clinical coding is vital for the Trust to fulfill its mission of becoming the 'safest Trust in England, excelling in all aspects of care'. The financial health of the Trust relies on precise and timely coding of clinical data. This information is crucial for resource allocation, clinical research, audits, healthcare contracts, and service delivery both locally and nationally.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Serving as the professional lead for clinical coding across the organization.
  • Formulating a medium-term strategy for clinical coding, considering service modifications and the implementation of an Electronic Patient Record system.
  • Leading and enhancing the clinical coding function throughout the Trust.
  • Establishing and applying best practices to ensure timely and high-quality coded data to support various initiatives, including Trust revenue and patient safety.
  • Acting as a project lead for clinical coding initiatives or providing expertise for projects involving clinical coding components.
  • Ensuring the achievement of key performance indicators and compliance with audit standards related to clinical coding.

Experience Requirements

Essential

  • Significant experience in a Clinical Coding environment.
  • Proven experience in a management role, including team leadership.
  • Understanding and experience in managing data quality within Clinical Coding.
  • Strong working knowledge of Trust Patient Administration Systems and other key operational patient systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of generating Trust income through Clinical Coding and Healthcare Resource Groups.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing change management to enhance service delivery.

Desirable

  • Completion of the Prince Foundation Project Management Course.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Accredited Clinical Coder status.
  • Management qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Windows-based applications and internet usage.
  • Advanced numeracy skills and familiarity with basic statistical techniques.

Desirable

  • Train the Trainer Connecting for Health Accredited status.
  • Advanced Auditor Connecting for Health status.

Interpersonal Skills

Essential

  • Confidence in communicating with individuals at all levels, including senior management and clinicians.
  • Ability to lead meetings and deliver training, including presentations.

Organizational Skills

Essential

  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven planning and organizational skills on both individual and service-wide levels.
  • Track record of meeting challenging deadlines and performing well under pressure.
  • Experience in managing projects successfully.
  • Capability to develop and implement audit programs and conduct complex internal coding audits.
