The Role
We are excited to announce an opportunity to join our team as a Building Regulations Specialist. This position is pivotal as we enhance our Building Control Service, transitioning from traditional local government practices to a more innovative, customer-centric model. You will play a key role in shaping our approach, exploring new avenues, and contributing to revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities
The primary objective of this role is to manage Building Regulation applications across the district and ensure compliance with statutory obligations. Responsibilities include:
- Evaluating plans, drawings, and documentation for adherence to building regulations.
- Conducting site assessments and inspections to verify compliance.
- Engaging with various stakeholders, including applicants, the public, construction professionals, and regulatory bodies.
- Providing guidance on regulatory compliance and managing issues related to demolitions and hazardous structures.
- Promoting the Building Control Service, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and representing the Council in relevant forums.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Skills: Membership in a recognized professional body (RICS or CABE) or equivalent qualifications, along with substantial experience in building control. A relevant qualification such as HNC/Diploma in Building or a degree in Building Control Studies/Building Surveying is required. Proven expertise in building control processes, including plan reviews and site inspections, is essential.
Knowledge: A thorough understanding of Building Regulations and related legislation, along with practical experience in a technical or professional capacity. Strong communication skills and the ability to manage a diverse caseload independently or collaboratively are crucial. Proficiency in IT and the ability to interpret technical drawings and provide clear, accurate advice are also necessary.
Communication Skills: Ability to utilize various communication methods—written, verbal, and electronic—tailored to the audience, ensuring clarity and understanding of complex issues.
